We’d like to finally share some more pictures from our trip to Chevak! We posted a few from the first day of our trip on this post, and would now like to share some more of the other days.
Please forgive the chronological randomness. It is getting late and I would like to get them posted! We have more photos to add later, as well.
If you click on the first photo, the format will change to a slideshow and you can read the descriptions of each picture more easily.
Flight 3 of 4 and still smiling! Anchorage to Bethel
View from flight to Bethel
The Bethel Airport
Getting to see beautiful Mary in Bethel on her way to college was so encouraging.
Flight 4 of 4. This is where it got real!
Here we go, folks! On our way to Chevak
Ben taking in the views from the Bush Plane
Our caravan from the Chevak airstrip. Heidi and the boys ahead.
First views of Chevak
Geoff overlooking the bluff at the end of the village, just past the dump. (This used to be a favorite “date walk” for Nate and Heidi).
Nate and the boys on the bluff
Nate gazing into his old classroom
Dana giving Heidi and the boys a ride in her “minivan”.
Here we go!
Worship night at Morris’ House. This guy is serious about his worship.
Geoff captured this beautiful sunset at about midnight on Friday night.
Nate playing hoops with some of our former students at the “ice rink” near the school. About 11pm.
Pulling up to “home” with Dayna.
Our beautiful hosts and new-found friends, Dayna and her daughter, Mariah.
Bush plane we took for our first leg home.
A view of Chevak from the air.
Vast and beautiful
Sewer lines running above ground, triplex apartments in the background. This was the view from our bedroom window at Dayna’s house.

Post office and houses surrounding lake.
One of two gas stations.
The Kashunak river, also known as a primary food source and means of transportation.
Levi, enjoying our walk, and the mud!
The boys loved to explore and walk around town. Here they are climbing on boats near the river.
The bluff that goes along the river with us walking underneath.
One of my best students, Kerri stopped by for a visit!
Kerri and Leona (who was dared to cut her hair).
Many dear, dear friends at the school. From left to right: Dottie, Mary, Susie, Lillian and Neva.
A glimpse into my old 4th grade classroom. Hundreds of hours spent in that room.
Ben making a new friend: Tyler
An example of why our walks usually took a long time.
Barbara, one of Nate’s old students, with her kids.
Having a blast with new friends.
Houses across the lake from the school.
Nate, Floyd and boys.
Levi having fun at Dayna’s.
I love this sequence of Liana and Dayna keeping Levi happy and entertained while we waited for our flight.
I think I’ll adopt this motto.
The drone and vibration of a bush plane will put you right to sleep!
